 For those with Physical Restrictions

  • Ask the person what their range of movement is and plan the kitchen so that all the essentials are within their reach and are easy to use
  • Set work area heights to suit - this often results in work areas with differing heights
  • Lower window heights for wheelchair users
  • Lower light switches
  • Avoid deep sinks such as Butler sinks - these are no good for seated or tall people
  • Have side-by-side fridge/freezers or raise a small fridge
  • No sharp corners or edges
  • When building, put noggins inside walls so that grab bars can be fitted later if required
