Pantries

The best pantry is one that can be opened up so that everything is visible at once. It is important to be able to open the pantry and leave it open while cooking. This means that the open door needs to be out of the way, not blocking a passageway, in front of the fridge or in front of the oven.

Doors can open or fold back against a wall, roll up out of the way (roll shutter doors) or slide into the side of the cabinetry (pocket doors).

It makes sense to place the pantry close to the fridge so that all the food is in one place.

Storage is required for small items such as spices, large bulk items and tall items such as bottles.

The best option for pantry storage will depend on the items to be stored and the kitchen space available. For example, arange of storage options can be provided by a bench top pantry that gives storage space for small appliances and often used food ingredients with wide drawers underneath the bench for storage of bulky and heavy items. A narrow pull-out beside the oven provides excellent shallow storage for spices, and other cooking ingredients right where they are needed.
